I finally understand how to do breathing & relaxtion tips other books only touch on

Don't miss this gem! I HIGHLY recommend BEING CALM BEING YOU by Ian Parks for anyone who has too much stress, is overworked, has anxiety and/or panic disorders, or needs to learn to relax in general!

I'm a 40+ year old female with PTSD, General Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic Attacks, & ADHD. Been in/out of therapy since age 16. Midlife has made me rethink my "just hang in there" attitude. I want more from life and I'm tired of my symptoms running my life. I devour self-help books on these subjects. But, this is the first book where I felt a good balance of WHAT PANIC IS LIKE with TECHNIQUES and the YOU CAN DO IT ATTITUDE. I really identified with Ian's struggle for a peaceful existence, but the book only provides a little about this. It's about his journey to find healing methods that work and to document those things that provided the most relief.

The things that stand out, and makes this book a keeper for me:

(1) BREATHING & RELAXATION TECHNIQUE DESCRIPTIONS - I've read far too many books that tell you what to do and little on how to make them part of your life. I practice the breathing for 5 minutes on my lunch hour at work. It's quick and easy to do. A few times when I started to feel frazzled on the job, I retreated to a quiet space to do the breathing. Am learning to do this before panic sets in. I've still had a couple of panic attacks in the three weeks I've been doing this, but they were quite mild. Making relaxation part of my day no matter what has helped tremendously.

(2) HOW TO LEARN AND PRACTICE THE STEPS - Ian encourages practicing them at night before bed. He said the breathing and relaxation helped him calm his body for sleep. I also have struggled with insomnia for years. I'm guessing that a lot of panic sufferers do. I've been doing the routine every night. I take sleeping pills, but there are times they don't even work when my body's too wired. Since I've been doing this routine, my body starts to relax and get tired at 10:30pm on the dot. I'm sure this is no coincidence.

The book is very much in line with Zen practice. Calming your body regularly so it can better handle stress when it happens.

Great book, short and to the point

The author is experienced in true panic attacks, I found the book very helpful though for my generalized anxiety and what I think are mini-attacks. And it is short and to the point. I have anxiety already, I don't have time to slog through a long book, not patience is part of my problem, LOL! This book is just right.

Sweet. For anyone New to panic and anxiety who wishes to get personal advice, this ebook is for you. It's not loaded with medical jargon, which I appreciated. I got to read it free through the lending library. I suggest borrowing this resource.
