Another Hit!!!

I love this book! My kids love this book, and my husband loves the results. I have four little boys, 10, 8, 5 and seven months. Obviously the baby is too young to help out just yet, but the older three couldn't wait to get home and pick out a recipe from the respective chapters in the book. ( 4-6, 7-11 and 12 and up) They have each made a meal from the book and we not only had a healthy and tasty meal to eat, but we had a blast making it.

We also have Emeril's books and a few Cooking with Mickey books. In Emeril's books the one thing I have noticed is the amount of time it can take to make some of the recipes. On a Saturday, I would think nothing of preparing a four course meal that takes three or four hours, but my kids don't have the patience for that yet. The Mickey books, although they are some of my favorites, are rather complex. Rachel Ray's book is simple and yet fun for the beginning cook. The results while not immediate, are tasty and don't require a lot of patience to reproduce.

If you have kids and they show ANY interest at all in cooking or just helping you out...I highly recommend this book.

Excellent cookbook for kids of all ages!!!

Makes cooking with kids really enjoyable!!! I bought this cookbook for my six year old daughter as soon as it came out. We both love it!!! Mostly, we have been making the recipes in the 7-12 section, but all sections contain recipes that will appeal to everyone's palate. I have been planning one Cooking Rocks dinner into my weekly menu, and that is my daughter's night to cook (with my help, of course). Last night she and her 7 year old friend made the Mexican Rice bowl dinner- they had alot of fun and ate a HUGE amount- probably because THEY made it, or as Rachael says, they had a sense of ownership of it.

(One tip though- as with any cookbook, you may want to cut back on some of the butter, oil and salt used in some of the recipes. A few of them are a little salty or oily for my taste)

This book provides a good foundation in cooking and healthy eating in the future. It teaches the basic methods in cooking, and introduces your child to different fresh herbs and healthy veggies, such as cilantro and arugula. In a world where many young adults don't know how to cook, Rachael does our kids a big service by teaching them how to cook restaurant-quality meals at home.

The spiral-bound format makes it easy to use, and you can't beat the price!

My kids think its great....

OK, so I'll admit it, I can be a little overprotective. Were my kids ever shocked when I announced that THEY were making dinner. My daughters (5 & 7) had a great time, and were very proud of their meal. They are looking forward to trying more, and my oldest has made a grocery list for all the recipes she wants to make.

One thing, I can't imagine anyone eating the portion sizes as they are listed. My kids made the "Pasta and Trees" in the 4-6 section. It calls for 1lb of pasta and says it makes 4 servings. We cut it down to 1/2 lb., and had more than enough for 2 adults and 3 kids (7, 5, & 2). Use common sense, but if you use the amounts listed for pasta, be prepared to have leftovers.

Joudie Kalla has been working as a chef for over 16 years. She trained at London s prestigious Leith's School of Food and Wine and has worked at restaurants such as Pengelley's, Daphne s and Papillon. Great cookbook, nice pictures, very authentic

Great cookbook, bought it for my mom for her birthday. We are Palestinian and she is already an excellent cook, which can be attributed to years pouring over Sahtein, the only cookbook previously allowed in our house.

This one is exceptional because of the pictures, the recipes are also simple to follow. The spice making guide at the begginning is also great, I never saw the directions for making Baharat before.

Outstanding and for everyone, not just people with diabetes

This book is simply outstanding, highly recommended if you have diabetes, prediabetes, or just want to know more about how to keep this from happening to you.

The core message of the book is (1) that blood sugars over 140 are damaging, and that you should keep your blood sugar below this level all the time, and (2) that keeping your blood sugar below 140 is something that everyone can do.

The problem with blood sugars over 140 is that they cause diabetic complications: increased heart attack risk, nerve problems, eyesight loss, kidney problems, blood vessel and circulation problems that can lead to amputations, etc. High blood sugars also accelerate damage to your pancreas, so that you get ongoing higher and higher blood sugars, a vicious circle. Not fun stuff.

The best early warning sign that your blood sugars are spiraling out of control is your peak blood sugar after a meal. If your blood sugar spikes to over 140 after eating, you need to start working on it. The best way to check it is to buy a low-cost over-the-counter blood sugar meter at your local pharmacy, and check your readings at 1, 1.5, and 2 hours after a typical meal.

The problem with fasting blood sugar as an indicator is that this is the last to go. You can have normal fasting blood sugars and high after-meal peaks for a long time, then "overnight" have very high fasting blood sugars when your system loses the ability to recover. Only when you show high fasting blood sugars will your doctor start treating you.

The best solution for high peak blood sugars is to reduce carbohydrates, which lowers the amount of blood sugar that your metabolism has to cope with.

One interesting piece of information is that carpal tunnel syndrome is often an early warning for blood sugar problems. Since I had carpal tunnel and other RSI problems years before I realized my blood sugar was not well-managed, this certainly fits for me.

This book is a great summary of what I've learned for myself, with enough new info and good ways of looking at things to make it extremely worthwhile. Thanks, Jenny!

Makes sense to me!

Having a diagnosis of diabetes for less than two years now has made me more than a little skeptical about the adivce and directions I've been given by the doctors, nurses & dieticians. It seemed as if they set the bar too low so I began to look for information that would help me avoid the ravages of diabetes. I found this book to be exactly what I needed to give my efforts a boost in the right direction.

I like that it speaks to all the major factors (food, exercise & medication) in a way that is simple to understand and specific with numbers that will help us live with this disease and I mean live without damage.

Thanks Jenny - everyone with diabetes should read this book and best case would be all those newly diagnosed would be handed a copy and told - This book will keep you on the right track and allow you to do what it takes to stay healthy with this disease.

For those of you suffering from Type 1, 2 or MODL type Diabetes, this book has the best advice for really improving your Blood Sugar Control and health. I have been able to bring my A1C from 8.4% to 5.8% in 3 months by using the key advice found in this source. Good but...

This has good collection (with helpful transliteration and translation), BUT this book lacks an index (or even a detailed TOC)...so it is not easy to find a dua without scanning the whole book. In this age of electronic publishing this is simply un-acceptable (from a technology perspective). Islam does not prohibit use of technology when it makes sense, so I don't understand this oversight. Matter of fact this book has a detailed TOC at the end for another book that they want you to buy

A better alternative is "Fortress of the Muslim: Invocations from the Qur'an & Sunnah" (Fortress Muslim Invocations Quran Sunnah which has a bigger collection as well

Aerospace Engineering Student

This book is really designed for a beginner level class in astrodynamics. I used it for my beginner class, and I found the book to be extremely helpful. Now, taking graduate level courses in astrodynamics, I still use Wiesel's book! When I need to look up basic formulas, I use this book often. If you're looking for a more advanced book in astrodynamics, look into Vallado's Fundamentals of Astrodynamics and Applications. However, for the beginner level, Wiesel does an excellent job of explaining the material and presenting the mathematics behind the equations.

I am an aerospace engineering student at the undergraduate level and used this text in an astrodynamics course. I felt that the author did a good job developing the fundamentals needed but lacked some important derivations that would have been usefull at times. I also enjoyed some of the non-technical aspects of this book as well, such as the sections devoted to our solar system and its characteristics.

I used this book along with Fundamentals of Astrodynamics by Roger Bate, Donald Mueller, and Jerry White - which has been used at my university for more than twenty-five years. I would suggest purchasing both books at once as doing so will give both a modern viewpoint of the subject as well as the derivations needed to understand the basics.

Good introductory and reference book

This book is easy to read and contains several good exercises. Ideal for undergrads looking to learn about orbital mechanics, attitude control, and trajectories. Also excellent as a quick reference for more advanced students. The only complaint I have about the book is that some of the diagrams are not very well drawn, which can be somewhat annoying, especially if it's for a homework problem!
