About the Author
Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. While living on Jerome Avenue and attending City College of New York (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was swept up in the social and political currents of the time. He became intrigued with the influence contemporary culture had on individual behavior: Did people shape society or did society shape people? He applied his interest in social forces and human behavior to the study of crime and justice. After graduating from CCNY, he attended the criminal justice program at the State University of New York at Albany, earning his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees there. Dr. Siegel began his teaching career at Northeastern University and has also held teaching positions at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (UML). Now a Professor Emeritus, he continues to teach courses on criminology and criminal justice in UML'S online master's degree program. Dr. Siegel has written extensively in the area of crime and justice, including books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, corrections, criminal justice, and criminal procedure. He is a court certified expert on police conduct and has testified in numerous legal cases.

Very Satisfied

I loved this book. It was easy to read and the concepts were understandable. The information was relevant to today and the examples were on events that happened recently. When I say recently I mean that the examples they use are dated past the 1900s. Since my criminology class was online, my teacher made us read a chapter and then have us take a test. Usually I have trouble with reading something without the professor explaining the topic. That was not the case with this book. There were very concise explanations that were easy to digest. Textbooks that I have used in the past are crammed with so much information that you can’t get the main point from them. More textbooks should be like this one.

I purchased the used version of this book. When dealing with used books, generally I always get the ones that have markings in them from the previous user. This was not the case when I opened this book. It seemed like it was practically untouched. It almost looked as if it was brand new. The book’s cover looked fine as well. There was a bend in mine but it did not matter. The inside contents were unharmed and readable.

The price for it was excellent too! If you are required to get a copy, get it here. It will save you a very good amount of money if you purchase the book here. It was cheaper than the other place I was about to get it from. Even if you are not taking a course in criminology, this book is still a good read for those interested in this topic. It was a good read and I actually learned something from it. I rarely say that about a textbook so take my word for it.

Kindle Edition was distracting.

I was really excited about purchasing this textbook on my Kindle Fire. I found the ease of transport to be a top consideration. However, the novelty soon wore off for me. This may be just a quirk for me but I found the formatting for the digital edition to be distracting. My guess is that the hard copy is formatted with a central column of text and side margins for vocabulary and key points, I don't know for sure, I haven't actually looked at a physical textbook. I found that in the digital edition the key points, vocabulary, and photographs would sometimes be tossed into the text in the middle of the paragraph which for me was distracting and made me lose my train of thought and I would often read the insert and then have to backtrack and re-read the few sentences before and skip the inserted text to maintain the flow of the content. I think from now on I will stick to pleasure reads for my Kindle and continue to buy/rent hard copy textbooks.

Coffin humor

Some Words with a Mummy, a story by Edgar Allen Poe, was originally published in the April 1845 issue of American Review: A Whig Journal. Though considered a short story, it’s a relatively long one, perhaps approaching novella length. Here Poe tries his hand at humor, and succeeds quite admirably. Despite the living dead subject matter, this is not a horror story, but rather a satire, and at times is quite hilarious.

The unnamed narrator is invited to a scientific event at the home of his friend, Dr. Ponnonner. The doctor will be opening an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus to examine the mummy within, and a select group of colleagues gather to watch. Given the title of the story, I don’t think I’m giving too much away by saying that these modern men of science have a conversation with the mummy. As the American tomb raiders grill their newfound acquaintance on life in ancient Egypt, and vice versa, it becomes difficult to tell which of the two cultures is the more advanced and which the more primitive. Poe satirizes the hubris of scientists and historians, and along the way manages to take digs at everything from the transcendentalist movement to American democracy.

I’m not a diehard Poe fan. I find his work hit-and-miss, but I enjoyed this story greatly and was impressed by his comedic skills. Here Poe exhibits the sort of cynical humor and biting wit that one might expect from Voltaire. A lot of times humor doesn’t hold up well over time, but this work, though published over a century and a half ago, is still fresh enough to make today’s reader laugh out loud.

SOME WORDS WITH A MUMMY is a creative, well written short story. Poe is amazing, though he wrote in the Victorian age his stories have such a fresh, modern out look to them. He is so talented at satire and this story has an incredible funny ending with his sarcastic touch. If you like satire, I highly recommend this short story.

Headnotes not present in Kindle edition

I'm using this book for class and discovered the Kindle edition does not have the very helpful headnotes (introductory essays) present in the print edition. Also, the publisher did not include true page numbers.

A truly sensual book

I was so entertained by this book that I wanted to share my happiness. Anyone who has read my reviews knows it is not easy to get a 5 star from me. If you love a great story line, oodles of smushy light BDSM sex, and good supporting characters, I highly recommend this book. That being said, I also read the reviews before I purchased this book. One reviewer is obviously Promoting another Author's work to drive readers to her favorite Author. I am certain the Author is grateful for the promo, but this review is walking a very fine line. To tear one Author down to promote another shows a lack of integrity. I am certain the book that was mentioned and Author that was mentioned are good. I had planned to buy the book. I still might at some future date. Not until the nasty taste of this review has left my mouth.

WOW!!! now THIS! is one wonderful beginning to a new series!!!

This book had me so freakin hot I was a melting pot! Jameson & Trev were absolutely scrummy alpha studly males...LOVED the camaraderie between Kit(Heroine) & Libby(her Human BFF)..Granny Rose was fabulous LOVED her..I dont want to give away any spoilers other than these names..the waiting for the next book is going to kill me I swear I dunno why I love series so much considering my nails always look like a cheese grater got ahold of them by the time the next book comes out...specially werewolves they are my weakness..

Read this book if you LOVE Erotic werewolf tales of Love..add in uber powerful witches & a evil darkness that follows in the shadows..you got my favorite combo!

Definitely recommend this book for everyone ;)

Loved this book from beginning to end. Yes, the end leaves things wide open, and with that I am assuming Ms. Gale is planning on future books. She took her time to capture her audience up in her version of the shifter world, and when you are writing a new series and creating a world of your own, that always takes time. I believe book two will have more action in it and answer many questions left unanswered at the end of this book.

That being said, this book is scorching hot!!!! Sex scenes are very hot, but no heavy bdsm, which I personally love. Yes, I would def. recommend this book! Very good read! Good plot lines, great primary & secondary characters, and great sex...what more could you ask for?
