Good book but is out of date - needs a second edition

I had the CCNA, CCDA, and CCNA Voice which were due to expire in March 2015, so I figured I'd go for the Data Center cert to extend out the three certs I already have, plus get a new one. CCNA DC has 2 exams the 640-911 and the 640-916, and this book covers the 911. There is no book on the 916 from either Todd or Cisco press right now, so I decided to take a Global Knowledge CCNA DC bootcamp, which covered both the 911 and the 916. I read Todds book and took the bootcamp before taking the 911 exam, which I passed. I planned on taking the 916 before my other certs expired in March.

That being said, if you have no hands on experience with Nexus and only read Todds book for the 911, you will NOT pass the current 911 exam. Perhaps the exam changed since Todd released the book, but as other reviewers have said, there is a lot on the exam that is nowhere in Todds book. What really annoyed me was the test itself; the stuff that was not in Todds book that was on the test was really stuff that in my opinion did not make you 640-911 qualified or not. They didn't quite ask questions like "what color is a Nexus 5000 series", but I thought there were questions that were just as irrelevent in my opinion - but if you didn't know the answers to those, you would get the question wrong. The Global Knowledge course filled in those blanks, but that was not the reason I took that class; I took it to prepare for the 916 test.

To be fair, what Todd did have in his book was good information, and as with his other books, the material was clearly presented and accurate, with his usual chapter questions, flash cards, etc. The 911 material is very similar to the CCNA material, with the differences being in the command syntax used on Nexus, which is just different enough from IOS that you need a book like this to learn from (IOS syntax will not work on Nexus in a lot of cases). There is a Nexus 7000 simulator included with this book which seems pretty good when you first look at it, but you will find that the only commands that will work on it are the ones in Todds labs, and not a single additional command that I could see. For example, I tried to practice some of my own ACL's and certian basic statements just came back with the ^ marker, and I know for sure they were good commands because they worked on the "real" Nexus's we had in the class. And also note that it is a 7000 simulator, so it wont be much use if you are wanting to practice 5000 series stuff, and definitely won't help on the MDS commands (thats not the intent of the simulator, just pointing it out). I'm giving Todds book three stars only because the book is out of date and the Simulator could use some additional commands. You may want to get the Cisco Press book on the 911 which came out in December. I have it but didn't read it end to end to see if it has anything in it that Todds book didn't.

I did pass the 640-911 and was happy to discover that just passing the 911 was enough to extend out my other three certifications! Thats not immediately clear in the Cisco documentation - it was implied that you needed an additional CERTIFICATION to extend existing certifications. Passing the 911 does NOT get you the CCNA DC certification, but since passing it extended my other three certs, I am not under the gun to pass the 916 test. For that one I am waiting for the Cisco Press 916 book which comes out in March.

Just passed exam

I just got back from the testing center where I passed the 640-911 exam. Todd's book was a great resource for the exam. I had previously used Todd's Network+ book as my only resource (outside of experience) for the Net+ exam so I was familiar with his writing style. Todd keeps it fun and not too dry. When it comes to this book, you'll definitely want to have some background in networking as the depth level of this one is sufficient for the exam but is not a complete reference on the topics. (thus the name: Study Guide) You definitely want to download the Sybex test engine and make use of the practice exams that are included with the book. There was nothing on my exam that was not covered in the book. Make sure you do all the Written Labs and Review Questions at the end of each chapter. If you are not gettting 90% or so on these then you are not ready to move on. Now, I just need Todd to hurry up and finish the 640-916 study guide so I can go take the 2nd test and get the CCNA DC cert. If you are working towards the CCNA DC cert then get this book and read it. Even if you have the knowledge already it is a good refresher on exam topics that you may not deal with anymore. (i.e. FDDI, Token Ring, 10Base2)

Todd has a great way of writing. He explains things in a more conversational style which engages the reader and keeps them interested and enthused.

In contrast, the official cert guides can be more of a tedious read. Both are good so I would recommend getting both but doing each chapter of Todd's book first then doing the associated chapter(s) in the Cert guide. If you are a totally new to this and can only get one book get Todd's book. If you decide to get the cert guide get the version that comes with the Pearson practice tests so you will have 3 sets of practice questions; Todd's questions, the cert book questions in the book and finally the practice questions from Pearson.

Simple Legal Exam System

This system is far from IRAC. IRAC gives no guidance for how to organize an exam, or what each section of IRAC really means, and so you are left to come up on your own how to fill in the gaps besides putting the issue first, rule second, application third, and then ending with a conclusion. While professors may pretend to help you better understand IRAC, it will likely be of little help because it makes grading easier if students do not know how to compose a competent exam.

Instead, it lays out a detailed system for how you should attack a legal exam by subdividing the elements of claims and then systematically looking to make sure each element is satisfied, while arguing for both sides.

Great resource to improve your grades

The single most important skill necessary for success in law school is the ability to write a well-reasoned essay examination. This system will guide you in how to structure your exam answers. Using this system made a big difference in my grades. I would recommend this system to all of my friends entering law school.

The Method for IRAC

Your professor and fellow students may say, "Just use IRAC for your essay model. Save your time and your money. " But HOW do you organize your issue, rule, analysis, and conclusion systematically? HOW do you make sure you have hit all the issues in a a given hypothetical? And,perhaps most daunting for some folks, HOW can you get it all done within the exam's time constraints?
For less than $200 and a (relatively) few hours of your law school career, you can gain the experience and confidence needed to attack fact pattern essays that might otherwise leave you panicked.

Read the Primer, listen to the lectures, work the examples and exercises. Sure, it IS just IRAC, but really it is the METHOD of exam writing and presenting IRAC that you are mastering.

Tell your competition to save their time and money, while you mess up the grading curve with your superior technique.

Wentworth Miller also offers live seminars- outside the scope of this review.

To be fair, law school in this economy, in this market, is a dubious investment. No more "golden ticket"- if there ever was one. Top grades, facility with exams, class rank, passing the bar exam on the first try, marrying the boss's daughter--do whatever you can to distinguish yourself from the pack. It can't hurt. --and you can always sell this with your rainbow colored case books to the next unsuspecting 1L with BigLaw fantasies.

THIS BOOK IS PERFECT FOR BEGINNER REAL ESTATE INVESTORS

I have read countless books on real estate. For investors who want to learn the basics of Real Estate investing, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. Most authors publish books that have no content, or they write one because of their name so they can receive a residual check. This book has more information for first time investors then any book I've read. Chapter 7 of this book is my Bible for crunching numbers on a property I am going to invest in.

How to Make a Fortune in Real Estate!

The book this week was The ABC's of Real Estate Investing by Ken McElroy. I was introduced to this book by a friend of mine. He has become quite the adviser on the subject of Real Estate Investing, starting his own Investment Group LLC at the early age of 22.

McElroy's book is slow starting, (which is expected with any book that has "The ABC's" in the title) but it really picks up after a few chapters. I know that after reading this book I could make six figures in the business of real estate investing in 5 years or less.

And now that you have your goal, it is time to hit the ground running. You will need to find a team because great things are seldom done alone. You will want a lawyer, accountant, engineer, etc. People that you can turn to and ask questions when they arise during your research. Another great thing about having a team to help you with your real estate dreams is you have people to keep you accountable. If you have ever worked out.. weight-lifting, running, or biking. You know it is so much easier to succeed when you have a partner to help you through.

You will then have to go out and find your ideal real estate. McElroy line-items just about everything you will need to look for when you are researching. This can be a fun time. Once you find the right property for you, this book will tell you how to find the "right" asking price. In the book there are detailed guides to writing your letter of intent to your buyer and how to go through the final process of acquiring your property.

After you have your property you will need to decide if you are going to be a the property manager- the person that handles the landlord duties- or are you going to outsource that job to property management company. I recommend outsourcing for any property over 8 units. Let someone else handle the rent checks, leaks, broken appliances, flooding, evictions, background checks, criminal checks and the list goes on. Outsourcing this job will allow you to work on researching other properties or continuing career goals. Property management companies will charge between 8% and 14% depending on the number of units and the company. However, remember that like all things, you get what you pay for.

As you venture into this new world of Real Estate Investing you may start small with a duplex or a small apartment complex. If you follow the guidelines laid out in this book you will have a steady cash flow to reinvest in new larger properties. The goal that I previously outlined in this review is not far-fetched. If you are motivated, put the excuses aside, believe in yourself, and really go for it you can reach this goal. In the current economy you have a goldmine of opportunity. Go do some research and put yourself out there. Interest rates are low and everybody is selling. Its a buyer's market, so take advantage!

I think this book is good for anyone that has ever thought about investing in property to supplement their income, but never really knew what steps to take. If you have any questions on the book don't hesitate to ask me a question. I would be more than happy to help anyone that needs it.

A Book for my Collection about Japan

I needed information about Japan, its culture, and its history. This is one of the many books on Japan that I have read that I used to improve my experience in Japan. In and by itself, it is lacking. Combining the information in this eBook with all of the other books on Japan that I found at Amazon that I could put into my Kindle's virtual library for free made it a worthwhile addition.

I would recommend the entire collection; and, maybe there are others that I have missed. Get them especially if you are interested in Japan and the Japanese culture whether a visit is planned or just curiosity!

Begin Again, an interesting and somewhat emotional read.
From the start up to the last, I love the story.
The story and the characters are good.
The characters, Maise and Ryan are easy to like.
Maise, a woman who has a past that made her reluctant to have a relationship and love again.
Ryan, a guy who wants to settle down and have a family of his own.
When Ryan met the lonely Maise, he's determined to make her smile, but as time goes by, he's determined to know her more and all..
Ms. Christy did an amazing job in making this book full of emotions, and lessons that may apply in real life.

Sweet read

This author captured what it is like to begin again after loss, pain and disappointment. This is truly a sweet love story that is a must read for those who enjoy an old-fashioned romance. I enjoyed the characters in this story and was ecstatic when Maisie started to open her heart when her sister gave her a pet to love and take care of every day. Not only did it provide a distraction, she actually enjoyed having them in her life and home. There are so many reasons why I enjoyed this book and I am sure that you will love it also. Enjoy and Begin Again.

Ryan and Maisie's amazing story! Loved it!

Christy Newton writes the sweetest and most heartfelt love stories that I have come across in a long time. I fell in love with her writing when I read Trust Again and now I’m even deeper in love. This is the story of Ryan and Maisie.

Maisie is waiting tables at a local diner to save up enough money for a down payment for her own house. She has been living with her sister and her husband. While she doesn’t mind living with them, she longs to have something her own. The past two years have been very hard on her after great tragedy struck her world. She thought she’d never love again and felt empty inside.

And here comes Ryan! He is new to town. Ryan is an exotic animal veterinarian. He decided the small town was perfect since there wasn’t a veterinary anywhere close by. He is single having just come out of a harsh breakup. When he is encouraged to try the local dinner out for their delicious pie, he finds more than the dessert to pique his interests. He is immediately smitten by the red headed waitress with the green eyes, our very own Maisie.

I have never met a Ryan in real life. A man with saintly patience for a woman he is falling head over heels in love with. He is determined to break through to her and never gives up on her no matter how strongly she tries to push him away. Ryan is very SWOON worthy. If I had a daughter, I would hope she could find her a Ryan in the world.

This love story isn’t without bumps along with way. There are trials and tribulations these two have to face. Ryan’s ex…I wanted to punch her in the face! It was truly an amazing story. I can’t wait to real more from Christy Newton. She has a way of pulling you into the story and rooting for her characters.

She has over 100 film, television and theatre acting credits and has appeared in more than 400 national commercials. Anoyne who has enjoyed even minor success in the entertainment industry will agree that a personal acting career is nothing short of running a business. Without creating a structured business plan, recognizing pitfalls before they occur, solidifying a method for obtaining both quantitative and qualitative results and developing a strategy for continually moving forward, the newcomer has already stacked the deck against their favor.

I am one of the lucky individuals who found Carolyne Barry early in my career. Her lessons not only helped me to cultivate a vastly successful commercial acting career, they also forced me to look at myself introspectively and find my own inspiration from within. The professional actor walks a treacherous road and Carolyne Barry's lessons have been best traveling mates that I've found.

The fact that her wisdom is now available in a single book is amazing! I happily and wholeheartedly recommend Carolyne Barry's book, "Hit The Ground Running." It belongs in every working actor's toolbox.

Devotion to Actors: She Cares.

This book is an invaluable resource for actors who want to WORK in the biz in LA... especially if you want to earn some good money doing commercials. I have taken classes from Carolyne Barry. I have experienced her books, cds, and online products. What I can say... my experience is that she deeply cares about her students and she is GREAT at what she does. I find that if a person really cares... if they really love their students, everything else falls into place. She cares. she cares enough to tell you the truth even if you don't want to hear it... because it will help you. She cares enough to spend an unbelievable amount of time improving the materials and courses that she gives the her students. if you haven't read her book or watched the videos on her [...] websites, check out those amazing resources! I am an actor who has been in LA for just over a year now, and my only regret is that I didn't read Carolyne's book before I arrived. The valuable information she shares is essential to have a chance in this competitive industry. Not only does Carolyne provide specific, in-touch information (w/ a timeline) based on over 30 years of experience as a successful actress, coach and casting professional, but she helps inspire the reader to reflect and develop the personal tools needed for success as well. It's rare to see such a savvy, strategic business mind coupled with such creative, artistic talent. The book covers everything from classes, training, planning, pictures and packaging to budgeting, organization and time management. I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book if you're a serious actor looking for real success.
